Howdy!,
The time has arrived.... Presason Football kicks off this weekend, Sunday August 5th, with the Arizona Cardinals vs New Orleans Saints. It could not have come quick enough. I have grown tired of following Canadian Football and its weird scoring system and unreliable players. How do you lose a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter Saskatchewan????? Anyways, the lines for this weekend is NO -3 +109. This is my pick and with last season, I play all of my picks in Las Vegas.
Houston Texans will kick off the Pre Season on Saturday August 11th at 6:00 pm CST at Carolina.
TV: ABC-13/KTRK
RADIO: 610 AM/100.3 FM/1010 AM
NO LINE AT THIS TIME
However, if you are interseted in CFL this is what is in store this week.
MTL vs WPG Friday August 3rd
BC vs TOR Monday August 6th

Take a Look Around
Howdy!
Do you feel that there are some movements and exercises at Crossfit that you need more work on? Do you typically arrive at your box 10, 15, or 30 minutes early to your class time? If you arrive early, do you just stand around and watch the class before you do the WOD and tell yourself, OMG I dont want to do that?
Well if you do, you are wasting valuable time. Take this time to work on your double unders, Kipping Pull UPs or Muscle ups if there is room available. Grab your jump rope and practice. Jump on a bar and work on just your kipping motion. Below is a link to a kipping tutorial.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cTAJnIGm6c
Each week the time that you wait for class to start can add up to 30, 45, or 90 minutes of training time per week that you are losing. Add that up per month.... Lots of time.
Also, if there is room available at the racks, get some strength work in. Do your Wendler's 5/3/1 work to increase your strength and your perfomance. Work on clearns, press, jerks, snatches, any thing that will help you at the box. Until next time

Why am I doing this???
Howdy!
Long time no blog... The theme of today's post is to identify the purpose of your goals. Without a clear plan, you will just be wasting time. You have to set your mind to a realistic goal in order to achieve it. Establishing small obtainable benchmarks allows for a higher probability of completing the larger goal. In this scenario the sum is greater than the individual parts.
Let me provide an example. If your goal is to bench press 300 lbs or clean and jerk 265 lbs, and you currently bench 200 and C&J 185, you will not be able to complete this weight successfully with months of hard work an dedication. Following a properly designed training and nutrition program is the only way to do so. I recommend Wendler's 5/3/1 powerlifting system. Nutrition is an important element to sustain the physical activity to add strength and size, if that is your goal. Water is the most important nutrient needed to fuel your body properly. De-hydration will make you sluggish and you will get gassed fast. Before I start to ramble, let me summarize.
1. Write out your Goal
2. Plan some incremental goals
3. Execute them.
4. Make a chart to visualize your goal to stick to it daily.
5. Do IT.
6. Check your progress Monthly to ensure that you are on track

NO SUGAR CHALLENGE!!!!!!! Bikram Yoga
Howdy!
Earlier this month I embarked on a no sugar, no artifical sugar, added sugar challenge. For those of you who are not aware of my love and obession of sugar, I love it! I love Coke, Sweet Tea, ice cream, and Awesome Cup Cakes. Vanilla is my favorite. Since the beginning of Februray, I have sworn off these delicious goodnesses and have stuck to my guns and have refrained from consuming them. I am using Agave nectar to sweeten my coffee and Malt-O-Meal in the morning other than that, it is WATER and UnSweet Tea for me (only during meals). Coconut water is also a savior.
For my workouts, I have averaged 3 WOD's a week and have begun attending Bikram Yoga at least two times a week. For those of you who have not tried Bikram Yoga because you thought it wasnt for you or you had a preconceived notion that Yoga was for tree hugging hippies you are wrong. I thought the same until one of my clients convinced me to attend a class with him and since then I was hooked. On my first class, i felt that i had just finished 3 Fran's and was spent. As soon as I left the room (105 Deg F) I was hit with a lot of energy and I felt great. I went back next week and put together a string of 3 classses and felt amazing.
Supplementing Crossfit with Yoga has been awesome for me and I can tell that my breathing is better and I have seen an increase in lung capacity. Who would have thought that eating right and taking care of yourself could have so many benefits. So far, I have lost about 6 lbs and I am noticing that my pants are loosening up. Will give a month in update next week. Until then...

Force Factor Product Review Update!
Howdy!
Well it has been a while since my last post. Needless to say I abandoned the Force Factor Challenge after two weeks. I noticed that there was a significant amount of water retention and I did not care for the extra weight. So I quit it. Not worth the money. You will be better off eating right, and if you have to take a supplement, go with protein after your workout.

Force Factor Review Day 8..... Go Texans
Howdy!
It has been 8 days since I began the Force Factor Product Review. So far I have notice increased strength and endurance. I have not noticed any size increase but I have had to pee all day since I began the review. I will be back with an update in a couple of days....
Texans won with T.J. The stadium was deafening. At times I could not hear my self scream. This week the Texans will face Cinny at Cinny. The line right now is Cinny -3. I still believe that the Texans will roll and continue the streak. A win will clinch the AFC South.

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” - Bruce Lee

OMG... Has it been 5 months since my last post!
Howdy! Howdy! Howdy!
Time flies. The past five months have been both hectic and awesome. The box has moved to an new and improved location. Lots of space, new equipment, new programs, new classes... Christmas is almost near, so that means parties. We will be hosting a Christmas party and Secret Santa ($10 to $20) party at a soon to be announced venue (The box or Downhouse), depending on the RSVP's. The sign up sheet is at the box on the clipboard, so if you are interested please sign up. i will be there, so I think that is reason enough to come.
The Texans are off to an awesome start. This week we are at Tampa Bay and we are favored by 3. Lay the points, the Texans will control the ball on the group with the Ground and Pound of Foster-Tate, Yes they have become one, and then light them up in the air with Schaub's hand cannon. Also, the Texas are 9-1 ATS on First Half's, incidentaly, Vegas has the same spread at -3 for the first half. I am going to take both and ride this train to town. Other games that interest me are:

Also, Houston was one of my fav's but they played yesterday and rolled Tulane... Cotton controlled the game with Keenum out of the entire 4th quarter.

Is Gatorade better than H2O???
Howdy!
There is a really interesting article on Yahoo Today that discussed the if sports drinks were better than water. i will post the link below. However, it talks about skim milk as a healthy alternative, i would avoid this because skim milk is actually blue and has color added to make it white, so you should stick to WHOLE milk. Other than that, my recommendation is Coconut Water, it is high in potassium, antioxidants, and other minerals and is delicious. It also has half the calories than a sports drink. Great for a hangover day as well...

Food vs. Food, who will win...
Howdy,
I just read an article on Yahoo! health about different foods and their nutritional properites. Here are the results.
Strawberries vs. Blueberries -- Blueberries Win
Higher antioxidant properties to help with immune system and reduce muscle tissue damage form exercise.
Recipe - put blueberries in hamburger patties to increase moisture.
Chicken Breast vs. Turkey Breast -- Turkey Wins
More protein, more Iron, More Arnold, more Selenium (antioxidant to protect cells from FrEe RaDiCaLs and Heart Disease.
Recipe - Buy a sodium free turkey and cut your own meat.
Peanut Butter vs. Almond Butter -- Almond Butter Flawless Victory
Almond Butter has more, Calcium, magnesium (muscle contraction), 3x Vitamin E
Recipe - Eat with Apple. I know very creative.
Spinach vs. Kale -- Kale Wins
My first question was, what in the hell is Kale and how can I buy it, do I freebase it or what?
4x more Vitamin C and 1.5x Vitamin A and K. Makes Bone Protein for The Situation.
Recipe - Make Kale Chips, not cow chips, by placing it on a baking sheet, spray with Olive Oil (buy this from me) and season with sea salt. bake for 15 min.
Quinoa (Kee Wan)vs. Brown Rice --- Quinoa by a mile (not a grain, Paleo Friendly)
3 more grams of PROTEIN! plus more Fiber, Iron, and Magnesium... plus Brown Rice cheated on its SAT's.
See what Mark says about it CLICK ME NOW
Olive Oil vs. Canola OIL ---- should i even say it
Olive oil has more anit-inflammatory compounds than canola oil,
Recipes - use it to cook, make dips, pesto, and vinaigrettes. Plus I import premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Infused EVOO as well.
Cow's Milk vs. THE GOAT - Goat wins
More Omega-3 Fats, calcium, phosphours, Magnesium and CLA (reduces body Fat)
Recipes - It will do your body good.
As always

Have you met your Farmer's Market Lately?
Howdy,
To kick off our Paleo/Jump Challange I have found a source of information to help you on your way. Here is a list of some Farmer's markets in the Houston area where you can purchase your food straight from the source.
My favorite is the Canino's Farmers Market on Airline just South of 610. Once you go to the back, you will find a plethora of booths that can accomodate your every need. Here are some others as well.
Midtown Farmer's Market - Saturday - 8am to Noon
Spring Branch Farmer's Market - Wednesday - 2:30 to 6:30
Wild West Farmer's Market - Sunday - Noon to 4pm
Tomball Farmer's Market - 8am to noon (2nd and 4th Sunday)

My favorite is the Canino's Farmers Market on Airline just South of 610. Once you go to the back, you will find a plethora of booths that can accomodate your every need. Here are some others as well.
Midtown Farmer's Market - Saturday - 8am to Noon
Spring Branch Farmer's Market - Wednesday - 2:30 to 6:30
Wild West Farmer's Market - Sunday - Noon to 4pm
Tomball Farmer's Market - 8am to noon (2nd and 4th Sunday)

T-A-S-T-Y!
Howdy,
I found some good receipes for those interested in losing some inches and lb's. Enjoy!
The first thing that you need to do is dust off your bbq grill and buy some charcoal. There is nothign that bothers me more than a gas grill. The mesquite and charcoal combo adds flavor, add the lid to the mixture and you seal in moisture and add a smoky flavor to anything that you can think of.
Proscuitto-Wrapped Chicken.
First, season the chicken breast with salt and pepper and wrap with thin slices of proscuitto. Grill over low heat until the proscuitto is crisp and the chicken breast is firm.
Grilled Watermelon Salad
Cut watermelon into half inch squares, rub with Gradassi Cufrol Olive Oil* and grill until lightly carmelized. Toss with your choice of greens and top with Cufrol Pinzimonio Balsamic Vinegarette.
Spicy Shucked Oysters
Shuck a dozen or so oysters, top with softened butter mixed with lemon juice and Louisiana hot sauce. Place Shells on the grill and cook until butter begins to bubble, 3 to 5 mins.
Gridiron Pizza
Make your dough Paleo or Awesomo, Cook on a well-oils grill until the crust is frim to handle. Top with tomato sauce and your choice of cheese or not and toppings, return to the coolest part of the grill, cover and cook until the cheese begins to melt.
Enjoy, my personal receipes to come.
